LIT 65 Day 3 Recap

The third and final day of LIT 65 was full of more traditions and lots of exciting basketball! The day began with the Annual LIT Banquet; where teams created and performed superhero theme songs, participated in a trivia contest, and listened to LIT Special Guest Kevin Vollet speak about LIT and high school athletics. Then, in the tournament’s first game to take place in the Merlis Belsher Heritage Center, the Luther Lions Boy’s played against the St. Joseph Guardian’s for 7th place. The Guardians took the game, with a final score of 83-68 for St. Joseph. Meanwhile, the Kelowna Christian School Knights went up against the Garden City Gophers in the Semple Gymnasium in the Consolation Final. The Garden City Gophers took the title, with a final score of 84-61. While the consolation final finished up, the Luther Lions Girl’s challenged the Miller Marauders in the Belsher to win third place on the girl’s side. The Lion’s won a well-earned victory, beating Miller 54-50. The boy’s third place game featured pre-LIT Champions the Campbell Tartans against the Sir Winston Churchill Bulldogs from Calgary. The Bulldogs took the game, beating Campbell 94-79. Finally, the Sisler Spartans played the Lumsden Angels to determine who would be the LIT 2017 Girl’s Side Champion. In a very close game, Lumsden ultimately took the title, with an incredibly close score of 57-54. The boy’s final also saw the SIsler Spartans competing for first place, against 12-time LIT Champions the Raymond Comets. Although the Comets were ahead for most of the game, the Spartans made an incredible comeback in the 4th quarter, beating the Comets 107-104. Immediately following the Championship game, all teams were awarded with their trophies and medals, and additional awards were given out. That concludes LIT 65; we hope to see everybody next year at the 66th Luther Invitational Tournament!
